Kids Can Ski for Free at These Resorts Next Month — How to Get a Lift Ticket

From Dec. 7 to Dec. 13, kids 12 years old and younger will be able to ski or ride for free at Alterra Mountain Company-owned resorts.

Alterra Mountain Company is celebrating the start of ski season by offering free lift tickets to kids next month at each of their North American resorts. 

From Dec. 7 to Dec. 13, kids 12 years old and younger will be able to ski or ride for free, the company told Travel + Leisure. The promotion is available at popular resorts across the United States and Canada.

“Winter is here and we want to help families get on the mountain this season,” Jared Smith, the president and CEO of the Alterra Mountain Company, said in a statement shared with T+L. “We hope Kids Ski Free Week ignites an excitement around skiing and snowboarding and helps start a lifelong passion the entire family can enjoy for years to come.”

The promotion is valid at 15 different resorts, including: Steamboat and Winter Park in Colorado; Palisades Tahoe, Mammoth Mountain, Big Bear Mountain Resort, and Snow Valley in California; Stratton and Sugarbush Resort in Vermont; Snowshoe Mountain in West Virginia; Crystal Mountain in Washington; Schweitzer in Idaho; Deer Valley Resort and Solitude Mountain Resort in Utah; Tremblant in Quebec and Blue Mountain in Ontario, Canada, which is subject to an opening date.

To redeem a free lift ticket, visitors should head to guest services at participating resorts or visit the individual destination’s website. Rentals and lessons are not included.

As a bonus, Stratton and Schweitzer are offering the free tickets to anyone 17 and younger.

The Alterra Mountain Company owns a total of 19 resorts and heli-skiing operations. In addition, the company owns and operates the popular Ikon Pass, which includes unlimited access in 17 different destinations and up to seven days each in 42 destinations. Currently, the Ikon Pass is available for $1,449 for the 2024/2025 season. 

In addition to the unlimited pass, the company offers several other options like the Ikon Base Pass, which offers more limited access and is currently on sale for $1,019, and the Ikon Session Pass, which offers two-, three-, and four-day access and currently starts at $329.
